Moving Stories of Canine Heroism

Rex
Meet 16 year old Javier Mercado and his 2 year old dog Rex. He was at home alone with Rex when armed robbers broke into his house on February 21, 2018.
“I heard the sliding door break. My dog ran downstairs and started barking and barking. I heard one guy scream, ‘the dog bit me, get the dog'” Javier told the reporters. Javier quickly dailed 911 and hid in the closet. Rex ran back upstairs all beat up and bloody. Soon, the burglars proceeded to the upstairs floor.
As they entered the room where Javier was hiding in the closet, Rex came out with the little strength he had left in him and threw himself at them. Sadly, they shot the dog several times. With three bullet wounds; one in the neck, one in the right hind leg and one in the left hind leg Rex couldn't keep up the fight.
By the time police arrived, the intruders had already left. Javier spent nearly an hour in the closet before he finally felt safe to come out. He was ecstatic to learn that Rex was still alive. Javier is certain that has it not been for his dog, he wouldn’t be alive to share this story.

Lefty
'Lefty' the pit bull interrupted four men who had broken into a family home, in Accomack County, Virginia, U.S., where the parents and children were sleeping. One of the robbers pointed a firearm at the father but the small but fearless pet launched herself at it. Putting herself between the muzzle of the gun and the owner, Lefty took a direct hit.

Lefty was rushed to the nearby veterinary centre. She arrived at Atlantic Animal Hospital in shock and bleeding heavily from a huge wound in her shoulder, the gunshot tore up her muscles and shattered her humerus bone. Surgeons got to work almost immediately, but were unable to save her leg, so they decided to amputate.
She is doing very well after emergency treatment.

Rocky
On March 9, 2014, Kasha, 24, was in bed with Aryan (her partner), 26, with (their Rottweiler) Rocky asleep on the floor next to them. Suddenly there was loud banding on the front door. Rockly run out of the room barking madly. After not seeing anything when they look outside, Rocky was sent to the bathroom because of the noise he was making.
They then proceeded to opened the door gently to get a better view when a gang of four hodded men burst through the door and shouted "where's the money?" Aryan grappled with 3 men, as one dragged Kasha into the living room and held a knife to her throat.

She was horrified they were going to be killed and thought about her unborn child. She told the attackers she was pregnant and begged them to leave but they continued to beat up Aryran.

Just when she felt hopeless, Rocky crashed out the bathroom and sprang to their defense baring his teeth at the intruders. Terrified, the men ran out the front door but Rocky was hot on their heels. Aryan checked to see if Kasha was ok before then ran after them.”

Her partner and Rocky managed to catch up with one of the men, they held onto him until the police arrived. The man was jailed for 10 years. Kasha wonders about what would’ve happened if Rocky hadn’t been there.

Blox
By reddit user - OpticalDelusions
"My best friend, Dan, had adopted a shelter dog, Blox. Blox was a f**king wackjob, boundless energy, very hard to housebreak, a challenging dog altogether. Nevertheless, Dan wasn't the kind of guy to give up on a dog, so he kept trying to get Blox to listen. Her name (Blox was a she) was coined because she was dumb as blocks... or so we thought.

Blox would consistently break out of the fenced-in yard by either jumping over a six-foot fence or digging holes underneath it. We filled the holes, added boards pointed in at the top of the fence to keep her in the yard, nothing helped. Blox was not going to be kept in a yard. Dan eventually gave up on training her without a leash (in the yard) and put a stake in the ground for when he'd let Blox outside. Blox hated the leash, dug the stake up and would drag it around the yard, destroying Dan's grass.

Dan still didn't give up, because he's a resilient motherf**ker who loves animals more than people. And it's a goddamn good thing he didn't give up, or he'd be dead.

One night, Dan's little brother was at Dan's house with a bunch of other people, myself included, for a party. Blox was chilling, as long as people were around she was fine, she only really got anxious when she was alone. We partied well into the wee hours of the morning, I left around 3am to go home. Dan's brother stayed and crashed out in the basement.

Dan's brother is a nice guy, but he's a f**king moron in the truest sense of the word. This moron lit a candle next to a bottle of shower cleaner (propellant) and a shower curtain (wick) and fell asleep with it lit. You see where this is going? Yeah.

As his house was beginning to be swallowed in the roaring flames of the fire, Blox ran into Dan's room, jumped on the bed, and started barking in his face, over and over and over and over until Dan woke up from his booze-soaked slumber. Dan actually pushed Blox off the bed twice from his recollection, but Blox was undeterred. She kept jumping back up on the bed (wasn't allowed on the bed) and barking in Dan's face. Finally, Dan's drunk ass got up and couldn't see his hand in front of his face.

"Holy sh*t" thought Dan "my f**king house in on fire" and he ran outside, with Blox chasing him.

But Blox wasn't done. Dan's moron brother was trapped in the basement, and remember how I said Blox was only calm if people were around? Well, Blox had some kind of doggie-sixth-sense, and she knew he was in trouble. She stood at the top of those stairs, flames singing her fur, smoke filling her lungs, barking nonstop so Dan's dipsh*t brother knew where the exit was.

Every single person made it out alive.

When the Fire Dept. came, one of the firemen took a liking to Blox. Since Dan was now effectively homeless, he agreed to let the guy look after Blox. Once Dan got back on his feet, he found the fireman to see about getting Blox back. So we headed over to the fireman's house and sure as sh*t there was Blox, happy, wagging, and sitting in a yard, unrestrained.

Blox was now Bella, and she had three human kids who adored her. The fireman told Dan he could have his dog back, but Dan really is the kind of guy who loves animals more than people, even himself. He was crying when he got back in my truck that day."

"OpticalDelusions, for the first time ever I can say one of my rescues is in a better place, and actually mean it."
